The people of Mitcham have proved what the season of giving is all about.

For the past six weeks, residents were asked to donate new toys at Access Self Storage in Morden Road who would then pass them on to the Salvation Army for Christmas.

Now it has been announced than a little more than 70 presents were contributed to the cause.

Access Self Storage manager Nic Laming was thrilled by the generosity shown.

"Working annually with The Salvation Army we have become close to the charity and the tireless work they do," he said.

"We know these toys really do make such a difference.

"We want to thank our community for donating so many gifts at such a busy time.

"It’s incredible over the past seven years, including this year’s donations so far, more than 6000 gifts have been collected for charities with the help of Access teams across the country.”

These toys will now be included in the Salvation Army's 2018 Christmas present appeal which enables them to pass gifts to people in Merton who may otherwise go without.
