Children at a primary school in Charlton have been left "devastated" after their SATs results were annulled.

Tim Baker, head teacher of Charlton Manor, told parents he "strongly refutes" cheating allegations and said he was "deeply saddened" by the Standard and Testing Agency (STA) investigation.

The STA annulled two papers after the Year 6 exams in May this year.

One grandad, who wished not to be named, told News Shopper: "Merry Christmas to the children who have their SATs wiped out and no record of their hard work.

"The more I think of this the more distressed I am. My grand-daughter is devastated. Her mental health is suffering.

"All her hard work is ignored."

In a letter to parents, the head teacher added: "Unfortunately, there is no right of appeal against the STA decision, which we are very disappointed about.

"Once again, you can be reassured that your child’s education will not be affected by this decision."

The school did not wish to offer comment to the News Shopper, but Greenwich Council said they are backing Charlton Manor despite claiming improvements were needed.

A council spokesman said: "We have met with senior staff and governors and they strongly refute that there was any over-aiding of pupils taking their SATs.

"While we found some procedures that could be improved, we have every confidence in the integrity and good reputation of Charlton Manor. We will continue to work alongside the school to support them, their pupils and families."

The school received a ‘Good’ inspection in its latest Ofsted report in March 2017.
