A delivery driver was reportedly struck with a hammer and robbed of a cash box.
The victim was targeted outside the post office in The Gossamers on the Meriden Estate, Watford, just after 10am yesterday.
The attacker, who remains on the run, was tackled by members of the public who managed to retrieve the cash box, which turned out to be empty.
The delivery driver was taken to hospital as a precaution but was not injured during the robbery.
Police are carrying out extensive enquiries to find the suspect.
