Developers’ plans for a six-bedroomed home estimated to be worth nearly £1.6 million in south Cheam have been scrapped for the second time.

The major proposals were withdrawn by Boathouse Properties after they were yet again met with fierce opposition this time round.

There were desires to knock down the property in Burdon Lane before constructing five new four-bedroomed and two five-bedroomed homes across two storeys.

It would come with two outbuildings that provide 13 parking spaces alongside cycle and refuse storage facilities.

Save for a few alterations, the proposals were almost identical to the ones submitted in July earlier this year.

However, similar to the first attempt, there was heavy opposition – with 119 objections being lodged during the consultation period.

Up 73 from the previous time, those against included Cheam councillors Elliot Colburn and Holly Ramsey and UKIP’s former Sutton and Cheam parliamentary candidate Angus Dalgeish.

Their grievances ranged from the type of development being proposed to the area’s local character and potential parking problems.

But the plans will not go any further as they were scrapped on December 4 this month, according to Sutton Council.

At the moment it’s not clear why they were dropped or whether new ones will be put forward for the third time.

The Burdon Lane home’s value has fluctuated over the past few months but, at the time of publishing, is valued at £1.57 million by property website Zoopla.
