More than 400 people turned up to see Santa in Beckenham at the Christmas Candlelit Parade.

The lights were turned on by Bromley mayor Kim Botting, while along the way to heading for Beckenham Green police cadets handed out free lanterns.

Shops including Bunka joined in the fun by handing out mulled wine and mince pies, and Kelsey House provided swing music with Shane Hampsheir.

Police officers headed the rolling road closure with everyone being kept safe by officers, and marshals from Beckenham Rotary.

Chairwoman of Beckenham Business Association Jackie Groundsell said: “This is a really exciting, community fun day in Beckenham’s calendar.

"Everyone looks forward to the Markets on the Green organised by Copers Cope Area Residents’ Association, chaired by Chloe Ross, with lots of stands, free entertainment and school choirs’ competition, funfair, local produce and craft market.

"In the Christmas grotto, children wrote their wishes to Father Christmas and will be waiting excitedly for their replies to drop through the letterbox.”

Father Christmas very kindly left his sledge which was laden with fabulous free toys generously donated by Two-Ten Restaurant and London Martial Arts & Fitness Academy. There were also craft activities with Crafty Hands.

Beckenham Together BID funded a tree and reindeers of lights at the war memorial as well as all of the Christmas lights in the high street.
