Staff and students at Wimbledon High School are jumping for joy after being shortlisted for best in the nation.

The institution is up for the 'senior school of the year' for the 2019 Tes Independent School Awards, but that's not all.

It was also nominated for 'wellbeing initiative of the year (for its pastoral programme Grow) and for the 'creativity award' (due to its innovation in cross-curricular learning and its science, technology, engineering, arts and maths focus.

Tes editor Ann Mroz said: “Independent education in this country is truly world class.

"It’s one of our great success stories. And those shortlisted for the Tes Independent School Awards are the crème de la crème.

“We received a record number of entries this year and the standard is the highest yet, so to be shortlisted is an extraordinary achievement for any school.”

The winners will be revealed on February 1 next year.
