Mothercare in Colliers Wood will soon be no more, but the site owners are keen to make sure the space doesn't go to waste.

News came earlier this year that the mother and child brand would be closing stores around the UK, including that in the Priory Retail Park.

But less than six months later, plans have already been submitted to replace it, but not with a shop.

Instead a 24-hour-a-day gym would fill the void.

In a document attached to the application, it describes company The Gym - which would take over the day to day operation of the site - as a "low cost health and fitness centre."

"The Gym’s business concept is to provide greater accessibility to quality, private health and fitness facilities at a low cost so all people can achieve their personal health and fitness goals," the document read.

"The gym will provide a range of functional equipment and free weights but will not include wider facilities such as swimming pools or racquet sports which are typically found at established public facilities.

"The proposed health and fitness operation will operate 24 hours a day."

The applicants said that if the proposal was successful that it would also create a range of job openings.

"The employment positions will be at a range of seniority and skill and will include both full and part time roles," the document read.

"The positions will help to reduce unemployment levels within the borough and will generate additional wages and disposable income to help support existing and new businesses."
