Croydon MP Andrew Pelling has been re-bailed after appearing at a police station today following his arrest in connection with an alleged assault on his wife.

The 48-year-old Croydon Central MP was told he would have to return to a police station at a date in October which officers have yet to confirm.

The dad-of-three was arrested at his family home in Croham Valley Road, South Croydon, on September 18 and taken to Croydon police station after officers received a complaint from his wife Lucy.

The Conservative MP was last week suspended by his party pending the outcome of the police inquiry.

A Tory Party spokesman said then that Mr Pelling had met with the Chief Whip and the case referred to the party's ethics and integrity committee.

"Until a conclusion is reached, he has been suspended from the Conservative Party Whip," the spokesman said.

His 10-month marriage to Lucy, who is eight weeks pregnant, is now thought to be over.

Mr Pelling is also a London Assembly member, won the Croydon Central seat in 2005 by just 75 votes.

His relationship with Lucy, a former teacher at Park Hill Junior School in Croydon, has been dogged with controversy after it was revealed they began seeing each other while he was still married to his first wife Sanae.
