The Christmas lights in Sutton town centre are set to be switched on this weekend – and here are some things you need to know.

Thousands are expected at the annual festive event this Saturday (November 24), set to kick off at 11am in Sutton High Street.

We’ve put together a nifty little guide for you as we count down to Christmas.

Q: What’s going to be on?

At 12 noon you'll see Santa's arrival parade which will come with skating, bouncing, juggling, dancing, as well as singing elves and a polar bear.

Acts will arrive on the main stage at 2pm before the Christmas lights are switched on at 6pm by some celebrity special guests, with a “lights extravaganza” taking place later at 6.30pm.

Among the performers are street dancers and 2009 Britain’s Got Talent finalists Flawless.

Mini-events will include a puppet pantomime, stage shows, an “elf takeover” and the launch of the Igloo Wonderland.

And, as part of a month-long series of Christmas events, you can also see a 360o igloo cinema screening of some festive flicks - such as “The Alien Who Stole Christmas”, “Frozen”, and “The Snowman”.

Q: Who is turning on the lights.

It’s not been confirmed yet who will be turning them on - but keep your eyes peeled!

Q: Where will this Igloo Wonderland be?

In Times Square. It has a capacity for more than 400 visitors per day, every day of the week. You can visit it before the lights are switched on.

Q: What is the “Elf Hunt”?

Participants must pick up a form on the day of the switch-on, find the elf, and then pop the form into a letter box in Times Square.

Prizes include Sainsbury’s and Wilko vouchers, hampers from Marks and Spencer, as well as dinner for two with a bottle of wine at Shinner and Sudtone.

There’s also a chance to vote for the best elf display you’ve seen.

Q: I run a business, is there anything I can get involved in?

Yes. There’s a calendar of events available, which also include the Igloo Wonderland, which runs until December 15.

Festive events will run from Monday to Saturday, 10am to 6pm, and on Sundays from 11am to 6pm.
