A Bromley teenager who was expelled from school has turned his life around after winning his professional boxing debut.

Billy Jackson, 19, from Bromley Common, was expelled from Ravens Wood School for constantly getting into trouble.

"I wasn’t the best student," Jackson told News Shopper.

"I was 15 when I was kicked out for always mucking about. I was fighting and all sorts. But I had good grades, school just wasn’t for me."

He proved his academic ability by going on to claim three As, two Bs and one C in his GSCEs through home schooling.

Billy said: "I think my family knew me getting kicked out was coming. My dad decided to home school me so I could fit in boxing training too.

"I trained twice a day and also had time for schooling."

The hard work paid off on Saturday (November 17) when he dropped his opponent on the way to his first pro victory on an MTK show in Brentwood.

"There were lots of nerves after a long build up," Jackson said.

"But I felt comfortable in there, like it was where I am meant to be."

The former Muay Thai boxer, who was always more dangerous with his hands, is confident he can get to British title level and beyond.

Debut celebrations did not last long with Jackson stepping back into the ring on December 14 at York Hall on BoxNation.

Jackson, whose favourite pugilist is Roy Jones Jr, trains in Gumshield gym in Eltham by veteran Ryan Barrett who fought Amir Khan during a successful 44-fight career.

The teenager is also trained by his father at Bromley Combat Sports.
