America's most famous Mexican inspired fast-food chain is coming to Croydon.

Taco Bell, known for its Tex-Mex tacos, burritos and nachos, will open on George Street in early 2019.

The new store, which will replace the empty Scrumpchinos, will create 55 jobs.

Three other branches are set to open over the next two months in London, where there are currently no Taco Bells.

Liz Williams, president at Taco Bell International, said: "We’ve had our sights set on London for quite some time, and as we continue growing internationally, we’re excited to bring Taco Bell to one of the world’s largest cities – and one of our most-requested markets.

"We’ve seen an overwhelmingly positive response to our UK restaurants, and have ambitious plans for growth in London and the broader UK, targeting more than 30 UK restaurants by the end of the year."

Taco aficionados will be well aware this isn't the first time the chain has served the capital, as branches operated in London for a period in the 90s.

The first opening is in Hammersmith on November 23, at 100 King Street. The other outlets are set for Holborn and Fulham.

Customers can choose from a range of Tex-Mex options, ranging from Taco Bell's signature hard shell tacos, to classic burritos and guacamole.

Specials include Happy Hour and Taco Tuesday, which features a taco and a beer for just £2. There will also be a ‘Cravers’ value menu, which offers smaller options at lower prices.

Ahead of the London launch, Taco Bell set about reviving Big Ben's chime by broadcasting their own signature sound in central London.

An audio specialist reengineered the sound of the Westminster Quarters using the Taco Bell chime.

Following this, multiple sets of were installed around the area, sounding out the custom made bell on the hour.
