A historic Greenwich building overlooking the Thames could become a Young’s pub as the chain applies to sell booze there.

Young’s & Co Brewery has asked Greenwich Council for a licence to sell alcohol at Enderby House in Christchurch Way.

The chain has more than 200 pubs in the UK, and if given the green light at a meeting next Wednesday, will start operating from east Greenwich.

Enderby House is a listed building alongside the Thames path, and is part of a major development by Barratt Homes.

The building was once home to historic whaler and explorer Samuel Enderby.

Young’s has applied to sell alcohol from 8am until 11.30pm Monday to Wednesday, until midnight Thursday to Saturday and until 11pm on Sundays.

The pub would close at midnight from Monday to Wednesday, at 12.30am Thursday to Saturdays, and 11.30pm on Sundays, according to licensing documents.

Earlier proposals had the pub closing at 12.30am during the week, but the chain has scaled this back following consultations.

According to council documents, the pub said: “This is an exciting opportunity to develop this historic building and provide a first class leisure experience to those living in the development, visitors and beyond.”

Dozens of neighbours have objected to the proposals on the grounds of increasing public nuisance and risks to children, however many have supported opening the old building as a new pub.

The boozer would be three floors, with a roof terrace, and sell food, according to the application.

The pub will be discussed at a licensing meeting next Thursday, November 29.
