A colourful exhibition is set to turn a bland corner of Sutton Central Library into an “exotic” hanging fuchsia garden.

The design, located on the top floor, will involve felt flowers and ceramic plots which have been made by more than 150 people across nine community groups.

This included people from the Royal Marsden Hospital, Sutton Women’s Centre, home educators, a local Russian community, as well as a centre for adults with disabilities.

It’s being hosted by the arts charity Team Imagineers as the library in St Nicholas Way, set to go ahead from November 26 this month until December 8.

The felt and clay exhibitions were designed during their fuchsia project, which has been run both in Sutton and other surrounding boroughs.

Olga Bastable said: “The space looks amazing. We have hanged the fuchsia flowers from the ceiling, which took hours, but was worth it.

“Each flower is made by a different person living in our community, as are the ceramic vases.”

Simon Honey said their aim to promote wellbeing was thanks to a financial boost from the National Lottery fund.

He added: “Some of the people we worked with were lonely or anxious, and meeting other people was a chance for them to chat and make friends.

“Losing yourself in a creative process is a great way to relax!”

It comes as Team Imagineers celebrate their second birthday as a registered charity, and following their exhibition involving two tonnes of beach sand earlier this summer.

Recent projects have included working with patients in the acute stroke unit at St Helier Hospital in Wrythe Lane.

The new fuchsia exhibition will run from November 26 to December 6 and is located in Sutton Central Library’s mezzanine.

There will be private viewings and free workshops available on the last day from 6pm.
