Nearly a dozen teenagers have been arrested after a Wimbledon shop was ransacked yesterday afternoon.

A large group of 15-16 year olds ran into a shop in The Broadway, stealing clothes and other items before bursting into the town centre.

Officers from Merton Police converged on the area with PCSOs, stopping buses to delay the suspects' escape further.

Merton Council's CCTV team directed officers to groups followed from the store and with the help of members of the public, the youths, some even wearing the stolen clothes, were rounded up.

A total of 10 teenagers, all from North London, have been arrested for the offences

Officers also recovered a large quantity of goods totalling approximately £1000.

One of those teenagers also assaulted a security guard and was further arrested for this offence.

Officers are continuing their enquiries into this, and will be knocking on doors early in the morning if it is proven that there is anyone still outstanding.
