There was a bizarre shake-up of Croydon Council’s planning committee at a meeting last Thursday (November 9).

Chair of the committee Councillor Paul Scott resigned only to return as vice chair in an unusual turn of events at the beginning of the meeting.

Cllr Scott told the meeting: “I would like to take one item of business not on the agenda this is to tender my resignation as chair of the planning committee.

“I understand Cllr Muhammad Ali would also like to tender his resignation from the role as vice chair.”

Cllr Scott nominated Cllr Toni Letts to step into his shoes for the remainder of the year.

He then handed over to Cllr Letts who thanked him and other members of the committee for ‘putting their trust in her’.

She added: “I would like to thank Cllr Scott on behalf of the committee for the endless hours that I think he has given to planning within Croydon.

“I thank him for his diligence, his self motivation as well as his dedication and being a source of inspiration.

“Now not everyone will have thought that, but I think as you walk round Croydon you will see the benefits of some of his work, working closely as a team with officers.”

But Cllr Scott was not without position for long as Cllr Letts went on to nominate Cllr Scott as vice chair of the committee for the remainder of the municipal year (until the end of April).

All the councillors mentioned here have been contacted for comment.
