A Swanley man has been jailed for the repeated sexual abuse of a young child almost ten years ago.

Jack Gillett was sentenced to three years and four months in prison for a string of offences he carried out when he was a teenager.

Gillett, now aged 27 and of Northview, Swanley abused his victim on four separate occasions, during a period between January 2006 and December 2009.

An investigation was launched after the victim reported his crimes to Kent Police in July 2017.

Gillett was arrested the following month and subsequently appeared before Maidstone Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to a count of rape, as well as a further four sex offences.

He was sentenced on 8 November 2018 and also made subject of a ten year restraining order, in relation to the victim, for a period of ten years.

Detective Constable Ben Clatworthy, of the Vulnerable Investigation Team said: "The victim has suffered considerably over the years, as a direct consequence of the appalling abuse she was forced to endure as a young child.

"At the time Gillett made her promise not to tell anyone and it has taken immense courage for her to now come forward and give her account of these crimes. Her brave testimony has now helped us ensure Gillett has faced justice for his actions and I hope this will provide some comfort and reassurance to the victim."
