Home CCTV has captured chilling footage of a burglar crawling through a two-year-old’s bedroom as they raided a Warlingham home.

The Wallace family were out when their Waterfield Drive home was ransacked shortly before 8pm on Tuesday evening, with at least two thieves stealing over £10,000 worth of goods.

The video shows what appears to be a woman crawling through two-year-old son Sam’s bedroom, rummaging through a cupboard, whilst an accomplice lies prone in the doorway.

Oliver Wallace, 37, was with his brother in central London when he received a notification from his Nest camera, usually used to monitor his son, which had been alerted to movement in the property.

He assumed it was just the cat, as his wife Sally, also 37, and Sam had travelled to Florida earlier that day.

But he quickly realised he was watching the burglary of his house in real-time.

Mr Wallace said: “I couldn’t believe it. There was a woman crawling around my son’s room.

“My baby was sleeping earlier in the that room earlier that day. Just seeing this woman inches from his cot was so upsetting, chilling really.”

Mr Wallace, a HR consultant, called 999 immediately, left the pub with his brother and hailed a cab.

It took police 45 minutes to arrive at the plundered property, by which time the burglars had fled.

The house had been turned upside down, as the thieves hunted for jewellery and other expensive items.

The burglars made off with thousands of pounds worth of technology and irreplaceable family heirlooms.

Mr Wallace said: “They targeted small expensive items, finding my wife’s priceless collection of family jewellery.

“She inherited it all from her parents, who both died in a car crash seven years ago.

“They took the sovereign necklace her mum was wearing when she died. They were priceless heirlooms of huge sentimental value.

“Then there were smaller things – wedding gifts, the watch I bought with my first ever paycheck. They might not cost that much but they mean a lot.”

Sally, who works as a charity consultant to the prison radio association, is still in Florida with Sam.

Surrey police have launched an investigation, and are appealing for witnesses.

A spokesman said: “We are appealing for witnesses and information after a property in Warlingham was burgled on Wednesday night.

“The suspects gained access through an insecure patio door, and then proceeded to search the house, stealing a number of items, including items of jewellery.

“One offender can be clearly seen in the footage, and is described as:

“Female, white, with long blonde hair and wearing a hooded top and jogging bottoms.”

Mr Wallace received the notification at 7.45pm.
