A new foodbank which received a £2,000 boost has been officially opened in Wallington.
Commemorated by the Mayor of Sutton Cllr Steve Cook, it is based at St Michael and All Angels church in Milton Road.
The foodbank received a grant from Sutton Council’s Beddington and Wallington Area Committee before the £1,000 figure was matched by Metropolitan Housing – which manages Roundshaw estate.
Money brought in will be used to help buy all the equipment needed to set it up, while volunteers who put themselves forward have been trained.
It will serve people in the east of the borough, who before had to go to an existing facility in central Sutton.
The foodbank is based at the church and is being supported by a “wide range” of other churches within the area.
