The Croydon parents of identical twins born 10 weeks premature are appealing for help, so they can stay near their children in hospital.

Lisa Worman, 31, delivered the twins, Jayden and Gene, by caesarean section on October 20, aged just 27 weeks old and underweight at only 2.5lbs.

Since their birth, Ms Worman, a dental nurse, and her partner Wesley Lester-Green, 39, a security consultant, have been staying with the twins on the Winnicott Ward at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, where the boys will remain until their original due date on January 18, 2019.

But the hospital can no longer guarantee the parents accommodation due to a lack of space, meaning they will have to spend hours commuting from South Croydon every day to deliver milk and provide support.

To fund accommodation in the Paddington area, Mr Lester-Green has set up a gofundme page, appealing for help.

Mr Lester-Green, said: “The hospital told us last week that we’re going to be discharged, but we live over an hour away.

“My partner’s still in a lot of pain and has difficulty moving around, so we want to be as close to our boys as possible.

“But the hotels up here are really expensive. I hate to ask for hand-outs, but we just can’t afford it.

“So I set up the gofundme page on Wednesday (October 24). So far the response has been amazing.”

The Winnicott Foundation, a charity which supports parents of premature babies born on the ward, has provided the couple accommodation on site since the twins’ birth.

This is on a day-by-basis however, which Mr Lester Green says is ‘unstable and stressful’.

In just four days the page has raised £3,200, but even this may not be enough.

The cheapest hotels in the area, one of the most expensive in London, typically charge around £100 for a double room.

Mr Lester-Green added: “I don’t want my babies to be alone in hospital without their mum and dad for one day, let alone Christmas day.

“Hopefully when our boys get stronger they can be transferred to a closer hospital and we can manage, but right now I’m in a dilemma.

“My two boys are fighters and will get strong, but they won’t do this alone.”

The twins need round the clock care and monitoring to help them gain weight and mature fully outside the womb.

Both are being treated in the Winnicott baby unit, where they are kept in incubators.
