Crystal Palace boss Peter Taylor has ruled out a move for Everton goalkeeper Iain Turner, but admits Julian Speroni must cut out the errors if he is to remain Eagles number one.

Speroni was at fault for both goals in Palace's 3-2 victory over Sheffield United on Saturday and, after a confident start to the season, has looked a shaky between the sticks in recent matches.

"Jules started off the season well, but just lately there have been a couple of little errors," admitted Taylor.

"He knows the score - if the errors continue then he might be replaced.

"If a striker doesn't score a goal there is a chance another striker will come in.

"The goalkeeping position is no different."

The goalkeeping position has become a bone of contention at Selhurst Park this season - particularly after the departure of Hungarian international Gabor Kiraly to Burnley in the summer.

Manchester City's Joe Hart was linked with a switch to Selhurst Park earlier this season, while Taylor admits he was impressed with back-up keeper Scott Flinders' form during pre-season.

Everton shot-stopper Turner played five Championship games for the Eagles during a loan spell last season and also made 11 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday.

Owls chief Brian Laws has been linked with a £250,000 move for the Toffees keeper, but despite Speroni's recent mishaps Taylor insists he will not launch another move for the talented custodian.

But Taylor insisted: "I am not looking to reignite my interest in Iain Turner.

"I am happy with Julian and Scott. If one goalkeeper is making some mistakes then the other might come in."

After analysing videos of Saturday's 3-2 win over Sheffield United, Taylor is backing the Argentine to prove his critics wrong.

"We have talked about it and the boys are big enough to accept the mistakes and they will learn," said Taylor.

"Julian is a determined lad and a tremendous professional.

"He finished off last season in tremendous form and that is why he started the season although Scott Flinders was pushing him all the way."
