Plans to revamp East Croydon station are being put to the public next month.

Network rail is holding a six-week consultation across Croydon as part of its major plans to redesign one of the country's busiest stations.

The new plans could see two extra platforms and a bigger concourse area added to East Croydon, the building of 'flyovers' around Croydon to enable trains to cross tracks smoothly, the rebuilding of bridges to fit additional tracks and the redevelopment of Norwood Junction to improve tracks.

Government funding has been given to Network Rail mainly to solve the 'bottleneck problems' to the north of the station, improving the commute for the 300,0000 passengers who pass through every day.

Sarah Jones, MP for Central Croydon, has spoken out in support of the plans, urging passengers to submit their views to the consultation.

She said: "Croydon commuters have been at a double disadvantage for years. Firstly, we’ve had a train operator in Govia Thameslink who have failed to live up to their responsibilities. Secondly, the track and other ageing infrastructure has not coped well with the increase in passengers.

“The recent timetable failure showed how fractured and disjointed our railway system is and why we desperately need public ownership. But we also need significant investment to improve the railway around Croydon and upgrade our stations to stop things from grinding to a halt.

“I was pleased to see how much work has gone into planning what will be a truly transformative project for our town. It will improve life for commuters and help boost our economy as a major hub between London, Gatwick and the south coast. I encourage Croydon passengers to respond to the consultation in the coming weeks and have their say.”

You can attend one of the consultation events listed below, or contribute to the online hub from November 5 to December 17.
