Hampton Hill Cricket Club expressed their delight after winning the Middlesex Colt Association South Area "Spirit of Cricket Award."

The award, which takes place every year, recognises teams who play the game in the right spirit. All 16 teams in the south area for all hard ball age groups vote for the team they think deserves the award. They were deemed to have played cricket in an inclusive, supportive and encouraging manner.

Club president Dave Mackinney said: "We are delighted to have been voted for this award. Our philosophy is to encourage a team element and make sure players, especially young children, enjoy playing the game. The big senior clubs in the area promote the best young players for the senior side. We are more inclusive, of course we want to win but we want people to enjoy cricket.

"Every player up until under 13s will bowl and bat throughout the season. All 11 players will bowl during a game and we will rotate the batting order so everyone gets and chance and feels involved. We are very much a family orientated club, where the team comes first. Older players will stick around the club and help the younger teams. We also push the game to junior schools and try to make cricket more accessible."

The last time Hampton Hill won this award in 2004. Hampton Hill Cricket Club are looking for new sponsors for 2019, email info@hamptonhillcricket.co.uk for more information.
