Charlton Athletic women will have five of their matches sponsored by first team players and management this season.

Igor Vetokele, Lyle Taylor and Nicky Ajose will all sponsor individual matches while the whole first team and management will sponsor a further two.

Managed by Ritesh Mishra they were promoted to the second tier of women’s football and subsequently the running match day costs have increased.

Lyle Taylor, who’s ‘pink October’ campaign has been supported by the ladies team, was delighted to reciprocate the support.

“They are supporting my cause and it was only right that I sponsor a game this season. I enjoyed watching them and I’m sure I’ll be down at The Oakwood again this season,” said the striker.

“I am really pleased the Charlton family has got behind the campaign and the support of the women’s team has been fantastic. I went to watch them against Lewes and everyone was so warm and welcoming.”

Charlton Athletic Chairman Stephen King said: “We are very proud to be part of the Charlton family and the support we have received from the men’s team has been fantastic. Stepping up a level is very exciting but it presents new challenges.”

“The attitude of the players reflects the relationship we have with the club. We are grateful for the support we continue to get from everybody involved with the club.”

The support is reminiscent of Wilfried Zaha’s contribution to the Crystal Palace ladies team last month when a sizeable donation helped maintain the development of their team.

Charlton suffered their first defeat of the season on Sunday, losing 3-0 to the FA Women’s Championship leaders Manchester United.
