More affordable homes will be built in Wandsworth by 2020, after the council signed contracts with a developer.

In total, 92 homes will be built in Battersea and Putney, increasing the supply of homes in the borough for people on lower incomes. The homes will be built by Wates Residential.

71 of the homes will be built in Battersea for social rent in Shuttleworth Road, which forms part of the council’s wider Winstanley and York Road Estates regeneration programme.

Wates will build 21 home in Stag Lane, eight of which will be available for low cost rent. The remaining 13 will be designed to support the borough’s most vulnerable residents, who have physical and learning disabilities, with the aim of helping them live independently.

As part of the development, Wates and the council have also made a joint pledge to provide employment and training opportunities for residents, including on-site apprenticeships, work experience placements and structured training programmes.

Wandsworth’s cabinet member for housing Cllr Kim Caddy, said: “We are delighted to be working with Wates to deliver 92 new affordable homes. This is part of our Wandsworth Homes for Wandsworth People development programme that’s providing more and more housing opportunities for people on low to middle incomes.

“Some of these properties are being specially adapted to help and support our most vulnerable residents, to whom these new homes will be life-changing. It will also help our residents in Putney Vale by providing local housing options for people living on the estate who want to downsize.”
