“Disgusting” images have revealed the extent of an alleged fly-tip which has been left in and near to Beddington Lane.

Trolleys, discarded furniture, as well as what looks like a big tarpaulin sheet are among the dumped rubbish.

Spotted in the approach road near Wickes and Guy Road at the junction with Hilliers Lane, they are said to have been there for some time now according to residents.

Mark Baldwin, who took the photos, said: “It’s a problem all around the borough, it seems. It tends to get dumped late at night, as it’s quite dark up by Wickes so it’s easy to dump stuff unseen.

“Looking at the size of most of it, it’s come off the back of a van.

“People need to be aware of who they get to clear their rubbish.”

He said he’s tried reporting it to Sutton Council and Wickes since publishing the photos on Facebook, while people have been left upset by the mess.

One user called it “disgusting”, as another said it’s “awful” and has been “bad for years”.

Meanwhile, a third user called on cameras to be installed so as to catch those responsible and tougher sanctions on fly-tippers following the reported offence.

Beddington North ward Cllr Tim Foster said there were travellers recently in the area next to the Wickes branch.

When they left, “coincidental or not”, images surfaced of the alleged fly-tip while abandoned furniture was found dumped in Guy Road at the junction with Hilliers Lane.

He said he’s contacted the council and the matters have since been delegated to the authority's street cleansing team.

Both Sutton Council and Wickes have been approached for further comment.
