An 86-year-old man has died after being hit by a car in Morden.

Police were called just before 6pm on Sunday, October 7, to the Epsom Road junction with Holne Chase.

Upon arrival officers found a man laying in the road. The victim was taken to a south London hospital where he sadly died in the early hours of October 8.

His family are aware and have named him as Mr Leslie South, of Holne Chase.

It is believed that Mr South, who suffered from dementia, was making his way home from a Morden park, where he routinely went walking, when the crash happened.

Witnesses left the scene prior to police arriving and as a result it was initially thought that Mr South’s injuries may possibly have been caused by him collapsing and hitting his head.

However CCTV showed that his injuries were the result of a crash.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are investigating and are particularly interested in hearing from any garages or mechanics who may have been approached asking to carry out work on a damaged dark Audi A6.

Any witnesses or those with dashcam footage are asked to call 0208 543 5157.
