Surrey Police has asked parents to have a word with their little ones, after a number of “abusive and inappropriate 999 calls” were made at the weekend.
Officers are investigating a number of hoax 999 calls, which were allegedly made from a mobile number this weekend.
In a Facebook post published at around 4pm on October 11, Surrey Police wrote: “We’re appealing to parents to discuss the impact hoax calls have on the emergency services, after a weekend of abusive and inappropriate 999 calls.
“A number of calls from a mobile number were received this weekend, which included false requests for assistance and abusive language towards our emergency call takers despite being warned to stop calling.
“999 should only be called when there is likely to be a danger to life, use of, or an immediate threat of violence, serious injury to a person, and / or serious damage to property.”
