A Crystal Palace restaurant that served the community for 22 years has closed due to ‘challenging’ economic conditions.

Domali Bar and Kitchen, which opened in April 1996, officially closed on October 1.

In a statement, the business cited current economic conditions as the reason for closure whilst paying tribute to the local community.

The statement said: “After serving the community for 22 years and watching Crystal Palace develop into London’s best neighbourhood, we have taken the difficult decision to close Domali.

“The economic conditions of the past year have made it challenging to continue to serve the quality food and drink our customers expect while keeping our prices affordable.

“We have met so many wonderful people. Have watched children grow up and relationships flourish and have seen the community come together again and again to stand up for what this area represents – a unique and independent village full of character and integrity.

“We are truly proud to have been a part of it.

“We hope this isn’t a goodbye but a ‘see you later’ as we contemplate our next steps.”

The restaurant, based on Westow Road, had recently added high welfare, locally sourced meat to its largely vegetarian menu.

Priding itself on its place in the community, the restaurant aimed to ‘work with local and independent businesses whenever possible.’

Disappointed locals have expressed their sadness and gratitude on social media.

David Dent wrote: “The end of an era to be sure. Been going there for over 20 years.

“Thanks for the food and here's hoping it's definitely ‘see you later.’”

Hannah Driscoll added: “Another place closing down! Raved about the halloumi burger and loved coming for a weekend brunch. It's so sad to see good places closing down in Crystal palace.”
