A woman was allegedly assaulted on board a train as police officers were called to Carshalton Beeches railway station.

A British Transport Police spokesman said the force was called at 5.35pm yesterday (October 8) to the reports.

He added: “Officers attended the scene and are making enquiries into this incident as part of an investigation.”

Trains were delayed through Croydon stations due to the then-ongoing police incident.

A passenger on the 18.26 service from Sutton to London Bridge said his train had been held at Carshalton Beeches for 20 minutes.

He said: “There have been no announcements. I've seen three police officers on the platform.

"One walked through the train holding a phone. It looked like he was looking for someone.

"I've just seen the police escort someone off toward the exit.”

Anyone with information is urged to call police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016 and quote 451 of 8 October.
