Top children’s authors are coming to Croydon as part of a day-long literary festival, which includes storytelling workshops and shared reading sessions for families.

Robin Stevens, bestselling author of the Murder Most Unladylike novels, visits Croydon Literary Festival on October 27 as part of the book tour for her latest novel, Death in the Spotlight.

Croydon is one of two London locations the author will be visiting, where fans can have a copy of the new book signed.

Cassie Whittell, Head of Croydon Literary Festival, said: “We’re delighted to welcome such esteemed children’s authors to Croydon as part of our growing literary festival.

“This year’s programme is interactive, exciting and offers something for all the family, so this is one event not to be missed.”

Stevens, creator of schoolgirl detectives Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong, has written over 12 books and is a previous winner of Waterstones Children’s Book Prize for young fiction.

She has also just been shortlisted for the 2018 Books are My Bag Readers Awards, the only book awards curated by bookshops and voted for by book lovers.

Ele Fountain, author of critically acclaimed novel Boy 87, will also join the Festival.

Fountain was a children’s editor at Bloomsbury before moving to Ethiopia with her very young family.

Seen through the eyes of Shif, a 14-year-old child refugee, Boy 87 is the story of his moving and challenging adventure in search of a better life.

There’s a wide range of activity for children and families during the Festival, including the opportunity for children as young as 8 to create their own poem with the Croydon-based Chocolate Poetry club.

There’ll also be a story telling workshop for the over 7yrs with writer and performer Sylvia Bishop.

In a special event for all ages, the Reader charity will also be offering Shared Reading Sessions where everyone is invited to sit down, relax and enjoy listening to a short story or poem.
