A major road running through Raynes Park will soon look a little different after plans to build eight new flats were approved.

As it currently stands, 27-35 West Barnes Lane has a row of shops on the ground floor and five flats above.

But in an effort to "transform and modernise a tired" building, the developers behind the project hoped to add two more storeys on top.

"The creation of an enhanced street-scene and the provision of high quality attractive residential and commercial accommodation is at the heart of the aims behind the proposals," a report attached to the planning application said.

"The street facing elevation has been designed as a contemporary re-interpretation of the existing building and will significantly improve the street-scene quality."
