Purley’s Homebase, which closed last week, is set to be replaced by a new home and garden store called The Range.

The new store will include a family café and large outdoor garden centre, which will sell Christmas trees and products throughout the festive season.

The Range, one of over 160 stores across the UK and Ireland, will open at 9am on Friday November 23.

Chris Dawson, founder of the chain, said: “Opening a new store is always an exciting moment for the company and Croydon is no exception.

“The job provision that comes with the new store should be a great boost to the local area”.

In August, Homebase announced the closure of 42 outlets across the country, putting more than 1,500 jobs at risk.

The Range is a home, garden and lesiure retailer, selling over 65,000 products across 16 departments including DIY, homewares, arts & crafts and textiles.

Beginning as a small trading stall in the South West, growth began with the opening of a first store in 1989.

The store will provide 80 new full and part-time jobs at all levels, from store to department managers and warehouse assistants to retail administrators.

It will be located at 66 Purley Way, Croydon, CR0 3JP.
