The Refill Larder has opened as a pop-up store on Teddington High Street on September 1. The store is located within the florist Gardenia until it moves to a permanent location in the area.

Aimed at busy families who buy large amounts of plastic in their weekly shop, The Refill Larder sells affordable dry goods, bathroom and cleaning products in bulk.

Examples from the refill section include pinenuts, peppercorns, rice as well as shampoo, hand soap, washing-up liquid and laundry detergent.

The Refill Larder will also stock a number of lifestyle products that help people reduce their reliance on plastic, such as water bottles, beeswax wraps, reuseable coffee cups, bamboo toothbrushes and refill containers.

Owners, Christina Ward and Kate Chesshyre, who are local to Teddington, were motivated to open The Refill Larder as they were personally frustrated by the lack of plastic-free options currently available for day-to-day household items and food in the supermarkets.

The Refill Larder will offer a modern take on the traditional shopping practice of buying by weight. The store will offer a new shopping experience for people in Teddington; customers may bring their own containers, jars or cloth bags to the shop; weigh them; fill them with as little, or as much of the loose products as they like; weigh them again and pay at the till.

The store will also sell refillable containers and offer paper bags for people without containers.

With excessive plastic usage regularly at the forefront of people's thoughts, shoppers are increasingly looking for ways to reduce their plastic footprint; from carrying their own shopping bags and water bottles to ordering milk in glass bottles and buying loose fruit and veg in the supermarket.

The Refill Larder, which is the first of its kind in the Richmond, will offer eco-conscious shoppers another way to reduce personal plastic usage in Teddington and the surrounding area.
