A Wimbledon school has been recognised for its "fantastic" cultural work.

The Rowans School was recently awarded the British Council’s 'international school award' in recognition of its work to bring the world into the classroom.

On hearing the news that the school had received the award, headteacher Joanna Hubbard said: "We embrace our international community in Wimbledon and celebrate the many languages that The Rowans children speak at home.

"Our international activities provide our children with a window into different cultures and countries, and supports the work we do in helping them to develop as global citizens.

"We are immensely proud to receive this international school award as recognition of our focus and success in this area."

Some of the work that garnered this praise included exchanging letters and video calls with children in schools around the world and an after school club which looks to celebrate the different cultures of its members.
