Heroic firefighters came to the rescue of two kittens trapped in a blaze in Thornton Heath yesterday.
Four people escaped before the London Fire Brigade arrived on the scene to reports of a house fire in Colliers Water Lane.
One of the two occupants rescued the mother cat and her four kittens, but conditions prevented the rescue of the remaining two, Smokey and Lucky, both five weeks old.
Firefighters were told that two kittens were still inside the property and came to their rescue.
In a tweet, London Fire Brigade wrote: “Cat-astrophe averted: Smokey and Lucky the kittens lived up to their names after firefighters rescued them from a severe house fire”.
