Bromley Council has said urgent repairs are needed to fix a burst water pipe in Biggin Hill which is causing chaos for those who regularly use the road.

A large hole opened up Main Road at the top of Saltbox Hill on Thursday (September 6) morning which has not yet been fixed.

Councillor Willian Huntington-Thresher, executive councillor for environment said: “Main Road is an absolutely vital route in and out of the Borough and used on a daily basis by Biggin Hill residents and we have raised these concerns with Thames Water.

“We understand and accept that a vibration ground survey is required before repair work starts, bearing in mind the obvious considerations. We will continue to monitor the progress of work very carefully and we eagerly await news as to how long the repairs might take.

“We are regularly visiting Biggin Hill to monitor the traffic situation and are offering local knowledge to Thames Water to try and improve the management of this incident.”

A spokeswoman for Thames Water said: "We’ve completed the repairs to the burst main, which needed to be carefully planned so that our engineers could carry out the work safely.

"We’re now arranging for the road to be repaired and resurfaced. We expect our work to be completed by Sunday evening and apologise for any disruption this has caused to drivers."
