An electricity company began a £250,000 project to improve the reliability of electricity supply in Coulsdon on Monday.
UK Power Networks, which delivers electricity across London, began an eight-week project to install 1.5km of new underground electricity cables in The Mount area following a cable fault on August 3.
The work will be taking place in The Mount, Whitethorn Avenue, Lloyd Avenue and Longlands Avenue.
UK Power Networks engineer Alan Catlin said: “This investment represents a significant increase in electricity capacity and will help us deliver reliable electricity supplies for homes and businesses in the local area.
“We have worked closely with the local council to plan the works and will work hard to keep any impact to a minimum.”
Temporary traffic lights will be used to help insure safety.
