A six-year-old girl who held a charity fete in her grandparents’ garden on bank holiday Monday has raised £650 for a Sutton children's centre.

Elsie England planned for months during the summer, inviting family and friends over, which saw a range of activities and refreshments.

These included hook the duck, apple-bobbing, face painting, and the chance to win a prize if someone correctly guessed the number of sweets there were in a jar.

In total, £700 was raised.

Now, the money raised from the fete will go to the Oak Centre for Children and Young People (OCCYP) at the Royal Marsden in Downs Road.

Mum Georgina Millington said: “As a parent, there is no nicer feeling than knowing you’re raising a kind person.

“Elsie is living proof of that. She has made us all as a family very, very proud with her kind idea and the hard work she put into it by making it happen.

“She is a very determined young lady.”
