Theresa May’s old local pub in Wimbledon Park will be given fresh life after plans to refurbish it were approved.

The now closed Woodman in Durnsford Road would previously have fallen under Durnsford ward, where the Prime Minister was a councillor from 1986 until 1994.

Developer's Goldcrest have insisted throughout the year-long process that it would not only restore the building, but also build "much-needed" homes as part of a two-storey erection.

"From the outset it has been Goldcrest’s intention to enable this much loved local heritage asset to be renovated and brought back into viable use for the local community," the application read.

"The Woodman had fallen into disrepair and was not in a sustainable form to ensure it’s use into the future.

"Goldcrest’s vision has always been to bring The Woodman back into viable use by removing some of the later additions and efficiently using the land surrounding the original pub for redevelopment bringing forward much needed new family housing and single person apartments that combined with a sensitive design approach in a small way will help meet the housing

need."
