Croydon girl Marcia Sey is officially the fastest student hurdler in England.

The Millfield School student took part in the 2018 School Games finals last week and ran a blistering time in the 80m hurdles to take home the gold medal.

“This is kind of above par for the rest of my season; I haven’t run a personal best for 80m hurdles all season, but today would have been one if the wind was legal,” the England Midlands squad members said.

“Getting the gold has made me quite happy because I thought my season was going to end on a bit of a low because I’ve been racing a lot and I’m a bit tired.

"This just proves that I can still come out and race well at the end of the season.”

Marcia’s time of 11.02 would have broken the School Games record and been a new personal best, had it not been denied due to wind-speed.

“I really enjoyed the celebration ceremony here and it’s a great experience being able to talk to the other athletes and the athlete mentors," she said.

"Having everyone supporting you around it is great.”

Next season, Marcia is moving up to the U20 age group, where she hopes to get to the European Junior Championships.
