A 17-year-old boy underwent surgery to repair his broken jaw after he was attacked by a gang of youths.

The teen and his 19-year-old brother, who are from Leatherhead, were with a friend when they were approached by a group of between and seven and eight thugs at the back of the Bear pub in Esher Park Road, Esher.

Detectives say one of the group struck the 17-year-old around the left side of his face, causing him to fall to his knees.

The force of the blow broke his jaw and he underwent surgery at St George's Hospital in Tooting.

The rest of the gang then turned their attention to the victim's brother and his friend, leaving his brother with injuries to his eye and ear.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the violent attack which took place between 12.30am and 12.45am on Saturday, August 18.

The ringleader is described as white, 5ft 9in to 5ft 10in, of medium build, with short black spiked hair. He was wearing a navy blue or black round neck t-shirt with "White 3" written on the left sleeve and a small logo in the centre of the chest, jeans and dark trainers.

The remaining suspects are all white youths of a similar height, except one who was 6ft 2in and had diamond studs in both ears.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Sarah McCabe said: "This was a nasty attack, the likes of which are rare in Surrey but when offences such as this do occur they are treated extremely seriously by police."
