A 23-year-old man from Norwood has been charged with attempted murder after a woman was shot outside a nightclub in Old Kent Road.

Self-employed Bhamian Abujaber Gayle appeared at Tower Bridge Magistrates' Court on Friday.

The woman was left seriously ill in hospital after being shot outside Virgo's nightclub in Old Kent Road, Bermondsey, in the early hours of bank holiday Monday, August 27.

Police were called to the nightclub at about 4.20am where they found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds.

The victim, in her 30s, had stepped outside the club to get some fresh air. She is said to be in a "serious, but stable" condition in hospital.

Gayle has also been charged with possession of a firearm on August 27, possession of ammunition on the same date, attempting to obtain a UK passport by deception, possession of a handgun on August 30 and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life on the same date.

Unemployed Robert Tate, 24, from Battersea, has also been charged and appeared at Tower Bridge Magistrates' Court last Friday charged with posession of a handgun on August 30, possession of a firearm with intenet to endanger life and entering the UK in breach of a deportation order.

They were remanded in custody and are due to at the Old Bailey on December 7.
