A touching tribute has been paid to a man who spent nearly three decades at Abbey Mills.

On January 13, John Clemens passed away following a battle with illness.

John worked at Merton Abbey Mills for 27 years with an array of different jobs and roles.

In recent years he would often be seen selling toys at the market to raise money for local charities.

He was described as "one of the site's most colourful characters" and that he could "never be replaced."

Now his memory will continue to live one.

A bench in John’s favourite spot on the site was recently unveiled.

His loving wife Pauline was joined by John’s work colleagues and closest friends last week to unveil this special new addition to the site.
