Lee Bowyer praised Albie Morgan and George Lapslie for their role in Charlton’s 2-1 win over Shrewsbury.

Karlan Grant’s injury-time header cancelled out Lenell John-Lewis’ 83rd-minute equaliser to give the Addicks their first win of the season.

Lapslie assisted Lyle Taylor’s opener and debutant Morgan, who was a half-time substitution, provided Charlton with some much-needed energy in midfield.

Morgan’s introduction saw the Addicks switch to a 3-5-2 formation.

Charlton caretaker boss Bowyer said: “I always believed we were going to win the game, even when they pegged us back. I think we were dominating the possession and we looked as though we were going to create chances every time we went forward.

“We moved the ball a lot better in the second-half after making the changes. The second half of the first-half wasn't good enough. So I made the changes and it worked.

“We didn't move the ball well enough in the first-half, we didn't have so many options for the player on the ball.

“So we went to the three. We were a bit more vulnerable on the break but I think when you're playing at home, you have to play that more attacking football and believe you’re better than them. I believed that.

“Their sitting midfielder wasn't getting too much of the ball. I said if the [4-4-2] formation didn’t work in the first-half then I’m changing to the three.

“The last thing you want playing at home is their midfielder dominating the play and he did that in the last 20 minutes of the first-half.

“Young Albie came on and I sat him around their sitting midfielder and I told him to make us play. For a young kid of 19, with no Football League experience, you have to applaud the kid.

“We’ve got some good youngsters. George Lapslie did well again today, he’s come off with cramp. He was up and down, winning tackles, diving headers.

“You've seen in the second-half we can play and compete. I said to the players ‘you have to do it over the 90 minutes and if you do then you’ll beat anyone because we have everything.’”
