Lee Bowyer says Charlton can’t offer Simon Dawkins a contract at the moment.
The former Derby midfielder has been on trial with the Addicks since the end of last season and featured in their pre-season games.
Speaking after Charlton’s 2-1 win over Shrewsbury, Bowyer told News Shopper: “At this present time, we can’t offer him anything at the moment.
“But he’s still going to carry on training with us like he did at the end of last season.
“And then things might change, but at this present time, we’re not offering anything. It’s my choice.”
Charlton’s squad is currently threadbare due to injuries - Bowyer has been unable to name a full substitutes’ bench so far this season.
