The latest in a long line of road closures will soon hit the Playhouse junction.

For five days starting on July 16, the roads from Ashley Avenue to South Street will close to the public from 8pm to 6am.

The roadworks are part of the Epsom 'Plan E' Highway Improvements, following the council being awarded £2.7m from the Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) to change the road layout in the town centre to help reduce congestion and improve its appearance.

In a statement put out by Surrey County Council, it acknowledge there may be some disruption during the works.

"The temporary pedestrian crossing in place for the Derby weekend was only possible as works at the junction were put on hold," the statement read.

"Works at the junction have restarted. It is not possible provide a pedestrian crossing during the rebuild of traffic islands at this location.

"With town centre works like these there will be some disruption to pedestrians and road users.

"We are trying to keep this to a minimum and ensure safety for both construction workers and the public.

"However, it is acknowledged that the alternative route to access certain properties in South Street is longer for some people. But safe road crossing alternatives are available. Although, not always on the desired route."

Additional signs have now been added in the Market Place to help direct pedestrians to the other route.

"We apologise for the delays caused," the council added.

"Please continue to use the alternative pedestrian route whilst these works take place."
