A shocked director of a funeral home in Orpington has hit out at the "scumbags" who burgled his business.

Gary Valentine, 28, said he was surprised people would be brazen enough to steal from an undertakers.

The burglary of Valentine & Turner Funeral Directors, in Orpington High Street, happened on Friday morning between 6am and 7am.

Mr Valentine told News Shopper: “It was the exterior of the shop. They didn’t physically kick the doors in but they still stole from our property.

“Luckily the scumbags didn’t gain access to the home where the coffins are.”

The suspects stole a dishwasher, a washing machine, a dryer and other smaller bits.

“It has affected how we do our job,” Mr Valentine said. “It is the area where we wash towels and we use the equipment to take care of the deceased.”

The director said the independent family funeral home is a big part of the community and has been running for three years.
