A new H&M store is coming to Sutton High Street as the clothing retail giant moves into a former BHS branch, it has been confirmed.
Sutton Council confirmed the news this week on May 30 while an opening date will be announced soon.
The BHS store in Sutton High Street has been closed for a while as major branches across south London shut after BHS entered administration in 2016.
Cllr Jayne McCoy, Sutton Council’s housing, economy, and business committee chair, said: “It is excellent news to have H&M coming to Sutton and moving into the former BHS premises.
“It shows confidence in Sutton’s future as a prime retail location and I’m sure it will be very popular with many local shoppers.”
Now the former BHS store, in Sutton High Street, will soon be taken over by a retailer after having not been used for the past two years.
The news comes as stores on the high street across the capital have become affected by major restructuring plans – putting jobs at risk.
Carphone Warehouse has become the latest on the list of retailers preparing to close some of its branches after running into financial difficulties.
Dixons Carphone said 92 standalone stores will be shut over the 12 months, joining Byron, Carpetright, Mothercare, and Maplin in making big changes.
