A 16-year-old from Whitton has been Irish dancing around the borough in the hope of winning a scholarship to dance camp this summer.

Catherine Conway, who has been dancing competitively since she was nine years old, is an extremely hard working teenager.

She said: “I train four to five times per week, sometimes more coming up to a big competition.

“I have qualified for the World Irish Dancing Championships every year which is a big achievement because only 1 per cent of all Irish dancers do.

“Next year I will be travelling to North Carolina, USA to once again compete in the Worlds.

“I love Irish dancing because it's a challenge to get the steps right and a big sense of achievement when you have perfected them.”

The aspiring professional dancer has been videoed dancing in Whitton, Twickenham and Richmond.

Catherine is trying to get as many shares and likes on her video as possible to be in with a chance of winning a scholarship to Fusion Dance Festival in Limerick this August.

Winners get access to eight days of workshops and fitness classes, as well as seminars, gets speakers and an invitation to join dance group Fusion Fighters at the Fleadh Cheoil, the biggest traditional music festival in Ireland.

Catherine said: “At the camp I will have the opportunity to learn the art of performance as well as get the chance to perform in show.

“This would be the next step in achieving my dream of being a professional Irish dancer and travel the world in one of the shows.”
