A significant £11.1m in mental health funding for the new Barnes Medical Centre has been granted by the government.

The new centre, on the Barnes Hospital site in South Worple Way, will provide outpatient mental health care and other community mental health service.

The project is part of a wider redevelopment of Barnes Hospital, which will also provide new housing.

Zac Goldsmith MP said: “There is a clear need for more investment in mental health in this borough, and I am very pleased that the Government has heeded calls to invest in better services in our area.”

Barnes Hospital is run by South West London and St George’s Mental Health Trust, currently rated good by the Care Quality Commission.

Councillor Meena Bond, champion for mental health, said: “As a Council we have been prioritising the mental health needs of our residents and re-evaluating how services are delivered.

“These funds will help achieve our objectives.”
